Back in December we had booked a typical Spanish “Finca” as the venue for our wedding celebration, because we initially planned to have 80-90 guests at our wedding, but then COVID happened and all what he had planned basically got cancelled or didn’t make any sense anymore because of the uncertainty and the amount of guests that still would be able to come. The Finca just seemed too big for 30 people and financially it didn’t make sense.
With all of this chaos and change of plans due to the pandemic, we realised that there is no point in stressing over something we had no control over, so we basically put all the planning on hold and waited kind of very last minute to plan everything. I said to myself “if it is meant to be, it will be”
Each day a new travel warning or restriction came up and at this point we did not even know whether we would be able to fly to Spain…but luckily due to a miracle I would say, we were able to fly to Spain beginning of July. And the minute we arrived, we went into full planning mode. We visited multiple venues and eventually decided on the Westin – La Quinta Hotel in Marbella, because they were able to offer us exactly what we were looking for, even though it was so last minute. Looking back, everything worked out perfectly and we couldn’t have had a more perfect intimate wedding with such a beautiful location.
Number of guests: 38 guests.
Do you have an engagement story: My husband proposed to me on our 6 year anniversary on the beach here in Dubai and it was the best surprise ever!
Dress choice and why you chose it: Even before I got engaged, I was the kind of girl that had a Pinterest board of wedding dresses I liked and could imagine myself walking down the aisle in. The type of dresses I liked were all simple, flowy yet elegant, I did not want anything over the top and with too much sparkle. So I started looking for wedding dress boutiques/ shops here in Dubai and I found it quite hard to find the dress type that I liked, until I found Ginger + Poppy Bridal Boutique. She had the exact dress style I was looking for and couldn’t seem to find anywhere else, so I was very happy I found her beautiful store.
I booked my appointment and had the best time trying on the many beautiful dresses at her store, but one in particular stood out the most to me – and that dress was the “Sienne” gown by Alexandra Grecco – the minute I tried on that dress, I knew it was mine!
Flowers/décor/theme of the wedding: Theme of the wedding was rustic and romantic, with lots of white flowers, wooden chairs and fairy lights above the tables.
What changes did you have to make to your wedding due to the Covid-19 pandemic: Change of venue for the celebration, change of number of guests, budget and overall had to become more flexible and spontaneous with the planning due to COVID. Everything happened last minute!
What is your most treasured memory from the wedding: Everything went perfectly and the venue, music and food were absolutely amazing, but our most treasured memory was that we had our immediate family members by our side when we got married and that we managed to have an amazing wedding day during the pandemic. The one thing, that has become even more apparent in these uncertain times, is that our health and family is the most important.
What advice would you give to brides going through planning a wedding during a pandemic: The best advice I would give to brides planning their wedding during this pandemic is to not stress too much about the small details (flowers, decoration etc) concentrate on the things that really matter to you and your partner, because when you look back on your day it doesn’t matter how many flower arrangements you had or the color of tablecloth you chose – as long as you and your partner are present on that day, you will be happy and look back with only fond memories.
Also it really helps a lot, if you choose a venue that also provides decoration, seating, menu options etc. – so that you do not have to hire everything separately.
Another thing I am glad about, is that I did not go overboard with the flower arrangements – you can save money by keeping it simple and also as you can tell by the pictures – the streets in Estepona are filled with the most beautiful flowers, so you don’t need to spend a lot on flowers if your location is pretty as it is.

ANGELINA & JULIEN
When we got engaged and started planning our wedding, we both knew we wanted to get married in Europe and somewhere that was special to us, but also a good location for our families from Germany and Spain to travel to. Each year for summer, we travel to the small town in Spain called Estepona and we knew it would be the perfect location for our wedding, since the weather is perfect and reliable (no chance of rain in the summer haha) and it is basically our second home – we love it there.
We both wanted to get married in the beautiful church Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios in Estepona, so that was the first thing we booked when we were visiting there in December 2019.
We chose to plan the wedding ourselves and since we both live in Dubai, it was a bit tricky to plan everything from afar, but luckily my brother lives there, so he helped us a lot with planning the wedding.
