Wedding at La Bastide de Cordes – Simon & Alina in Gordes, France

Provence Wedding Photographer Story

Nestled among the soft hills and stone villages of Provence, Simon and Alina chose La Bastide de Cordes – Chambres d’hôtes as the place where their story would quietly turn into a family history. This two-day wedding celebration in Provence, just outside the famous village of Gordes, brought together around fifty guests who flew in from the United States and had everything we love as a wedding photographer in France – warm light, honest emotions, a slow rhythm, and a place that feels like home the moment you arrive.

La Bastide de Cordes is not a grand château. It’s a charming Provençal house with textured walls, olive trees, and views that open into endless countryside. For Simon and Alina, it was the perfect setting to gather their closest people, celebrate their love, and let the days unfold naturally, without rush or staging. Our role as their Provence wedding photographer was simply to observe, feel, and preserve.

A Slow Morning in a Provençal House

The wedding day began in the calm of the bastide. Morning light slipped through wooden shutters, touching bouquets, handwritten vows and the quiet routine of getting ready. Alina dressed in one of the upstairs rooms with its stone walls and minimalist décor – the kind of room that doesn’t distract, it just frames the moment.

Downstairs, Simon shared a relaxed morning with his friends, moving between the garden and the living room, suit jacket casually thrown over a chair, laughter mixing with the sound of coffee cups and soft conversation. This is exactly the atmosphere we love capturing as wedding photographers in Provence – the in-between moments that tell as much as the ceremony itself.

A Garden Ceremony at La Bastide de Cordes

For their ceremony, Simon and Alina chose the garden of La Bastide de Cordes itself. Under the Provençal sky, surrounded by olive trees, stone walls and views over the Luberon, they exchanged their vows in front of about fifty guests who had travelled all the way from America to be with them.

The ceremony felt deeply personal – heartfelt words, gentle laughter, and the soft mistral wind carefully turning the pages of their vows. As wedding photographers in France, we pay attention not only to the obvious highlights but also to the subtle details – a hand held a second longer, a quick glance when nobody else is looking, the moment a parent realises their child is now building a new family. Provence, with its warm palette and gentle light, makes these moments even more timeless.

Golden Hour at La Bastide de Cordes

Back at La Bastide de Cordes, the late afternoon turned everything to gold. The garden opened into panoramic views – olive trees, dry stone walls, lavender and the soft lines of the Luberon hills in the distance. We took Simon and Alina for a short portrait session just before sunset, letting them walk, talk and forget about the cameras.

For us as a Provence wedding photographer team, this part of the day is essential. It’s where the couple can finally exhale, feel the reality of what just happened, and simply be together. No heavy posing, no forced moments – just two people in love, framed by the quiet beauty of a Provençal evening.

Two Evenings: Welcome Dinner and Wedding Reception

The celebration at La Bastide de Cordes stretched over two evenings. On the first night, Simon and Alina hosted a welcome dinner under the open sky, in the garden of the bastide. Several long, straight tables were set with simple linen, seasonal flowers and candles, creating a relaxed Provençal atmosphere where guests arriving from overseas could slow down, reconnect and savour local wine and food.

On the wedding day itself, dinner moved inside La Bastide de Cordes. Guests gathered around round tables in the warm, intimate rooms of the house, surrounded by candlelight, thoughtful details and the sound of clinking glasses. Between courses, friends and family shared emotional speeches, and the evening naturally flowed into dancing – the kind of celebration where laughter, tears and music blend into one continuous memory.

Documenting these kinds of celebrations is why we love being wedding photographers in France. A wedding in Provence is rarely just about one day – it’s about a whole experience: arriving at a bastide, waking up with a view, tasting local food, hearing several languages at the same table and feeling that, for a few days, time moves differently.

Why Choose Provence for Your Destination Wedding

Simon and Alina’s celebration at La Bastide de Cordes, near Gordes, is a beautiful example of what a destination wedding in Provence can be: relaxed, aesthetic and grounded in authentic local atmosphere, yet big enough to bring together a full group of family and friends from abroad. Instead of a huge production, they chose a place that felt real and personal – and Provence did the rest.

If you’re dreaming about a wedding in France – whether in Gordes, the Luberon, or another corner of the south – Provence offers:

• Characterful venues like La Bastide de Cordes and small chambres d’hôtes

• Soft light that makes every photograph feel timeless

• A natural, slow lifestyle that lets you truly enjoy your wedding day

• The possibility to gather guests for a full weekend, not just a few hours

As wedding photographers in Provence, we help couples build not only a visual story of the wedding day, but a living archive of this chapter of their life together.
